Museum Spotlight: Georgia 1850 – 1900 and the Changing Role of Women

Discover how family farms and larger plantations differed and the impacts of the Civil War on Gwinnett County.  See how women were provided opportunities to be nurses, doctors, educators, abolitionists and more during this pivotal time in our nation’s history. Decipher a secret code, make a homemade toy and investigate the diseases that soldiers faced during the war.  Get hands-on experience with some primary documents including an inventory of the Yellow River Post Office Store and a letter written by soldier A.W. McDaniel. View a historic corset and a ladies’ etiquette book on display for this month only.

Museum Spotlight Tour is at 11:00am and 2:00pm and the Blue Planet Sensory Theater is shown at 12:00pm 1:00pm and 3:00pm (when available).

Program included with museum admission. Free for members.
