GEHC Green Power Patch

The GEHC Green Power Patch is a program for both Boy and Girl Scouts.  The program can be self-guided or led by an EHC educator.

Come earn the GEHC Green Power Patch by experiencing our exhibits, nature trails, and multi-media theater. We have included some fun activities for you to complete as you explore our exhibits. Learn about the heritage of Gwinnett County and what we can do as a community to conserve our natural resources. Upon arrival at the Center, proceed to the Ticket and Information Desk to pick up a Green Power Patch booklet. Once the booklet is completed, patches may be picked up at the Ticket and Information Desk. Self-guided program  cost is standard GEHC museum admission plus $2.00.  (see website for admission pricing).  Guided program cost is $13 per person.  The program includes GEHC admission and a patch.

*Rentals, special events, and special programming may limit access at certain times to the Blue Planet Theater and other exhibits that are a component of the Green Power Patch. Scout troops should ALWAYS call ahead (770.904.3500) when scheduling this program to determine availability.

CUB SCOUT PROGRAMS

The following programs are currently run at the Gwinnett Environmental & Heritage Center. Scout programs are designed to be completed primarily outdoors, so please encourage participants to dress for the weather. No open toe shoes; sneakers are the best option.

We require two leaders with each troop at all times. A minimum of 10 scouts is required with a maximum of 20. If you have a small group, you may combine with another group to meet the minimum group size requirements. You may extend your visit by packing a lunch to eat at the outdoor pavilions; check with the Registrar about pavilion availability.

Program Costs: $11 per Scout. Two leaders are admitted free with the group; additional parents/chaperones/siblings pay the same price as Scouts. Please note that the program cost does NOT include admission to the museum or the merit badge or pin.

WEBELOS/ARROW OF LIGHT ELECTIVE ADVENTURES

The programs are designed to be completed primarily outdoors, so please dress for the elements.

  • Into the Wild

Are you curious about the natural world? Join us on an adventure as we explore our trails in search of creatures that hop, fly, slither, and swim. Get close to some aquatic habitats and learn about their significance for bird flyways and how we can protect them.

This 2-hour program fulfils Requirements 4-9.

  • Into the Woods

Take a hike into the woods to identify some of the most common plants and trees that make up our Georgia habitats and learn how they are used by both humans and wildlife. Separate trees by their characteristics and learn how to read a tree’s history through tree rings.

This 2-hour program fulfills Requirements 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, and 7. Requirement 5 must be performed independently to earn the badge.

Please encourage students to dress for the weather; we will spend time outdoors as part of the program.  No open toe shoes; sneakers are the best option.  In the case of bad weather we have inclement weather plans built into our programming so there is no need to reschedule.
